Volunteer Opportunities

Special Plant Rescue Project:

ASNV is partnering with the local environmental group Lands & Waters to implement Native Plant Rescue and Relocation Volunteer Days.  The effort is supported by a grant from TogetherGreen, a National Audubon initiative with funding from Toyota.

ASNV is sending volunteers to rescue native plants before they are bulldozed for various transportation development projects.  The rescued flora are being replanted at Audubon at Home sites, including native gardens and outdoor classrooms.  Gems such as milkweed, American holly, dogwood, and blueberries are being rescued and relocated.

This initiative will continue through May 2009.  In exchange for labor, volunteers are welcome to take plants to place in their yards.

We need volunteer help.  Contact Elaine Franklin (elaine@audubonva.org) about assisting with this project and subsequent rescues and plantings throughout the year.
